Notes for Samuel Bittick

Samuel Bittick born between 1755-1774, could he be a brother to Francis Bittick born 1759? Based on the 1785 Tax Payers records for Orange Co, North Carolina - Samuel may have been born between 1755-1768.

Samuel Belick and Nancy Williams were married on 31 March 1798 in Orange Co, North Carolina. Bondsman was Henry Holoday, Witness was Jno Taylor. Bond #94774, Record #01-027.
[Note: Henry Holaday born about 1762 Orange Co, North Carolina; died after 1830 Tennessee, md Sarah Quackenbush about 1783. Their son, Thomas Holaday c1791 Orange Co, North Carolina md Margaret Bittick in 1812 Williamson Co, Tennessee. Another son, Peter Holaday c1784 Orange Co, North Carolina d? md Lettisia Hartgrave in 1812 Williamson Co, Tennessee. Is this the Peter Holiday who shows up in Arkansas?]

Early Settlements of Pike County, Arkansas
Little Missouri and Wolf Creek Settlements

James G. Melson settled about three miles south of the Kelleys near the Little Missouri river west of the public road. He arrived in 1816 from Boone County, Missouri. His previous residence was in Jefferson County, Mississippi. As prior indicated, when the first government land surveys were made (1819) in Clark (now Pike) County, Arkansas, the Melson improvements are shown in the original survey plat as two-cultivated areas each described as 'Melson's Field' in Township 9, South of Range 23 West. His family consisted of his wife Roanna Melson and children: Mary, Solomon, Rosanna, Washington and Emily. Other early settleres of this area of the Little Missouri included Samuel Bittick and Richard Wood.
[The Gems of Pike Co, Arkansas Vol. IV, No. 4, p4-54]

[Note: The Samuel Bittick mentioned is probably Samuel Bittick, born between 1755-1771, who married Nancy Williams. Richard Wood is the father of Polly Wood who married Jesse Bittick, son of Samuel and Nancy.]

21+ = Samuel Bittick [about 59-75? = 1755-71]
1 = wife? [about 53? = 1760-70]
5 = children born before 1818 - no idea on age or sex.
It's possible the 5 others are not children of Samuel or his wife, they could be brothers or sisters of either one. Or, other relatives/non-relatives. This is the only year Samuel appears in an Illinois census.
Robert Bittick, b1788 NC, claims to have lost his War of 1812 discharge papers in Illinois when his house burned in about 1835-36. Must be a connection.

1829 Clark County, Arkansas Sheriff's Census - Samuel Bittick not listed but his son, Jesse is with 2 females age 14+, one of whom could be Samuel's wife, Nancy.

1830 - Clark County, Arkansas - Nancy Biddise is found on the census and appears to be a widow.

Is this a Bittick family?

There are several unplaced Bittick's in Missouri 1840 & 1850 census. By 1830 Samuel appears to have died but it's possible he was missed or moved to another state. Willis Henry Bittick b1816 (in the Francis/Missouri Bitticks database) could be one of the above in 1818 or 1830?
