abt. 1827, according to his discharge paper dated 24 Oct 1862, W. F. Bittick was age 35 (born about 1827) born in Pike Co, Arkansas.  Company Muster Roll for September & October 1862 also states that he was discharged because he was over age 35 [Our only source for his birth date is 9 Jan 1830 on his tombstone] [Item 11: bittick_william_ark_page12_item11 & Item 9: bittick_william_ark_page8_item9]
 
4 August 1861, W. F. Bittick at Crane Creek, Missouri, enlisted/joined for duty and enrolled for period of one year by Lt. Col. 24 Oct 1862, Cumberland Gap:  W. F. Bittick a private of Captain Chas. Carter's Company H of the Second Regiment of Arkansas Mounted Rifles discharged by reason of being over age.  States that W. F. Bittick was age 35, born in Pike Co, Arkansas, five feet nine inches tall, dark complexion, black eyes, black hair, and a farmer before enlisting.  Enlisted by Lt. Col. McRae at Crane Creek, Missouri on 4 Aug 1861 for period of one year.  Last paid 28 Feb 1862 and has pay due from that date to 24 Oct 1862.  Discharged at Cumberland Gap and due $80 traveling allowance from Cumberland Gap, place of discharge, to Hempstead Co, Arkansas, place of enrolment, transportation not provided.  Indebted to Confederate State $8.35[?] for clothing overdrawn.
