            The 10th Regiment Missouri Infantry (also known as the
1st Regiment Missouri Infantry and as Steen's Regiment
Missouri Infantry) appears to have been organized about
November, 1862, by the consolidation of Steen's and Pickett's
Battalions Missouri Infantry, together with men from Priest's
and Winston's Regiments Missouri State Guard Infantry,
Coleman's Regiment Missouri Cavalry, and from a Colonel
Johnston's Cavalry command.
            Some men from this regiment together with men from the 16th
Regiment Missouri Infantry were formed into Company C, 9th
Battalion Missouri Sharp Shooters, November 29, 1862.

OATH OF ALLEGIANCE.
I, William M. Bittick of Jefferson County, State of Missouri do hereby solemnly swear that I will bear true allegiance to the United States, and support and sustain the Constitution and laws thereof; that I will maintain the National Sovereignty paramount to that of all State, County, or Confederate powers; that I will discourage, discountenance, and forever oppose secession, rebellion and the disintegration of the Federal Union; that I will disclaim and denounce all faith and fellowship with the so-called Confederate Armies, and pledge my honor, my property, and my life, to the sacred performance of this my solemn Oath of allegiance to the Government of the United States of America.
